Abstract

This roundtable discussion is to introduce the research network Postcolonising the medieval image. We would like to initiate a conversation on the uses of concepts drawn from postcolonial studies for the research into medieval images and visualities. The category of the medieval has traditionally been associated with Christian Europe, and we will be wanting to discuss how a methodological shift could help to soften these disciplinary, religious and geographical boundaries. The organisers will present two short position papers. Panellists and audience members are invited to consider these issues, but also to raise their own perspectives on the subject.
