Abstract

This session about the great reformer of the Frankish Church, Benedict of Aniane, deals mainly with the start of his ecclesiastical career in Aquitaine. Walter Kettemann will present the person Benedict among his circle of friends and followers. Annika Rulkens will study monastic architecture in Aquitaine in comparison with Benedict's later foundations. Janneke Raaijmakers will approach Benedict's reforms from the perspective of saints' cults.
