Session 1429: Finding the Right Academic Publisher: A Round Table Discussion

Wednesday 15 July 2009, 19.30-20.30

Sponsor:Brepols Publishers, Turnhout
Organiser:Simon Forde, Brepols Publishers, Turnhout
Moderator/Chair:Guy Carney, Brepols Publishers, Turnhout
Abstract

As institutional pressure increases on scholars to publish their work in a timely manner, it is crucial to find a publisher who will add value to the delivered material, in terms of: linking their reputation or brand to the quality of the author; providing expertise and facilities to create a high-quality product; and distribution to ensure that the potential readers are reached. This session brings together publishers from a number of commercial or non-subsidised presses whose print-runs are in the 300-600 range.

Participants of this round table include Robert E. Bjork (Arizona State University), Julian Deahl (Brill Academic Publishers, Leiden), Heiko Hartmann (Walter de Gryter & Co. Verlag, Berlin), and Caroline Palmer (Boydell & Brewer, Woodbridge).
