Abstract

Paper -a:
Various documentary sources from England refer in different ways and languages to 'Scottish swords'. Can surviving material culture reveal how perceptions of Englishmen towards the fighting equipment of their antagonists from the northern realm were shaped? Using examples from Glasgow Museums and other collections this brief paper will try to provide some insight and demonstrate how documents and material culture can be used in tandem to further our understanding.
