Abstract	This session considers the practicalities of seafaring and the pilgrimage to Paradise. The first paper discusses terms for ships and their context and examines how much the literary representation of ships and boats relates to a historical reality, engaging with recent critique by text scholars. The second paper analyses the descriptions of Brendan's voyage to the otherworld in the Latin Navigatio compared, in particular, with the two independent accounts of Paradise at the conclusion of the Italian version. The final paper assesses navigating the ocean in terms of monastic planning, and the crossing of boundaries in conceptions of sacred space.
