Abstract

This session will highlight fresh approaches and insights into the Old French William of Tyre and its Continuations. There is much to be learnt from a systematic study of the complex manuscript tradition about the original form of the text and how it evolved during the 13th century. Over 50 MSS of the text survive. The AHRC-funded research project, in which all three participants in this session are engaged, is designed to re-examine the translation and its manuscript tradition and produce a new edition of the OFr Continuations.
