Abstract

In this session MeMO DS, an internationally approved Description Standard to enhance the exchangeability of both the research data and the research infrastructure, will be presented. MeMO DS offers a standard to describe sources that are essential for the study of medieval commemoration practices, namely 1) memoria-related narrative sources; 2) memorial registers, 3) sepulchral monuments and gravestones and 4) memorial pieces. Secondly, the Rich Internet Application (RIA) 'Prayer and Politics' will be introduced to show how new media can assist in mapping out and understanding the complexity of the medieval commemoration of the dead. Finally, a respondent will reflect on the papers presented in the three sessions.
