Abstract | The purpose of this session is to explore some of the mechanisms of loosing status from the perspective of individuals, groups, and peoples who suffer the effects of governmental action as being looted and robbed or have their property confiscated. The three papers analyze different types of sources concerning impoverishment in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. |
