Abstract

This session explores biblical literature in the broadest sense. The papers will look at some of the ways in which the Bible was used and adapted in Middle English literature. Raluca Radulescu's paper will consider the cultural and political contexts in which texts such as the Pety Job were read in the 15th century. Frances McCormack's will develop her reading of the relationship between Chaucer, the Lollards, and the Bible. Cathy Hume's will investigate how Susan rewrites its biblical source, concentrating on Jewishness, marriage, and romance.
