Abstract

Bride's trousseaus, sacred garments, and vessels or royal treasures occupied an outstanding place in medieval material culture as expressions of wealth, power, and piety. In many cases, the passing of time has deprived the contemporary viewer of the contemplation and understanding of these objects. Through literary, documentary, or iconographic evidences we can attempt to reconstruct the aspect, display, and function of both secular and sacred medieval treasures. This session will address these topics exploring some case-studies from Italy and Spain between the 13th and 15th centuries.
