Abstract

The proposed session will showcase current research on religious commemoration in Yorkshire. Stephen Werronen will present his findings concerning the chantries of Ripon, highlighting the location, date, and patronage of chantry foundations both in Ripon Minster and the town's chapels and hospitals. Eleanor Warren will present research on the chapel of St Mary and the Holy Angels in York, focusing on the chapel's foundation in the later 12th century, and considering its role as Archbishop Roger of Pont L'Eveque's memorial chapel and its early constitution. Victoria Spence will present work based on bequests to the religious in the wills of those living in Craven in the late medieval period.
