Abstract | This panel aims to picture the day-by-day of a student in the Portuguese medieval university, regarding the three main topics of this congress - food, famine, and feast. We will discuss the specific privileges granted to the university concerning food supplies as well as analyse the common problems related to famine faced by many of its students as they were trying to get an academic degree. Finally, we will address the particular way of life developed by some (if not almost all of the) students: the bohemian lifestyle that was one of the distinctive marks of most of medieval university towns. |
