Abstract | This session explores modern approaches to collecting and editing so-called paratexts, with a focus on the Medieval Greek manuscripts of the Bible and of the works ascribed to Dionysius the Areopagite. The speakers in this session will discuss how they are dealing with different kinds of paratexts - mainly medieval apparatus and book epigrams - and address the methodological difficulties they have encountered so far. In addition, they will demonstrate how these paratexts shed light on the transmission, reception, and readership of the texts they accompany as well as on the history of specific manuscripts. |
