Abstract | The session brings out the evidence of material culture to complete the image of the medieval horse. The papers in the session also respond to the strand of thematic strand of 'otherness', whether by discussing the unglamorous baggage animals or the 'atypical' or 'alien' Irish bits. The papers draw on archaeological, visual and documentary evidence to reconstruct the less familiar, and often ignored, physical aspects of medieval equestrianism. |
