Abstract

'Models of Authority: Scottish Charters and the Emergence of Government, 1100-1250' is an AHRC-funded project that over the last three years has brought together palaeographers, diplomatists, and historians from the Universities of Cambridge, Glasgow, and King's College London. At the heart of the project are new research tools inspired by DigiPal. Each paper in this session shows some of the fruits of using this new research technology, including the 'Nöel BarCode' developed by Geoffroy Nöel during the project, highlighting new approaches to the relationship between charters and royal authority.
