| Abstract | The research project 'Cities of Readers: Religious Literacies in the Long 15th Century' aims at reconstructing the impact and the diffusion of religious readership and the making of religious knowledge among lay believers and to study their active role in this process. This session will focus on the relation between source texts, which were primarily meant to be read and their dramatic adaptations. What happened when (part of) a narrative, literary text was reshaped into a play? What experiential (didactic; entertaining; devotional) advantages or disadvantages did staging offer over reading? |
