Abstract

The session will focus on the military involvement of medieval higher clergy in seemingly 'peripheral' and late Christianised parts of Europe, which are called after Prof. Jerzy Kłoczowski 'Younger Europe' (i.e. Scandinavia, Poland, Hungary, Rus’ etc.). Its aim is to bring together conclusions of research of scholars from different countries on representation warrior clergy in medieval historiography, clerical role and service during military expeditions and their military activity in context of missionary undertakings.
