Abstract

While much important and paradigm-changing work has been done by medievalists on issues of race, gender, disability, ethics, postcolonial, and trauma theory, it is clear that we are experiencing a backlash against work on these and related topics, on the medievalists who work on them, and on our attempts to diversify our field. The problems are, of course, not limited to medieval studies, or even to academia. Medievalists have often been in the forefront of speaking out and working for change, and in this spirit we will discuss not only what is being done, but also what more we can do to work together to change our field and culture for the better.

Participants include Nadia Altschul (University of Glasgow), Roland Betancourt (University of California, Irvine), Eva Frojmovic (University of Leeds), Vincent van Gerven Oei (punctum books, Tirana), and Anna Klosowska (Miami University, Ohio).
