Abstract

Life in medieval towns was characterised by hierarchical relationships, interpersonal cohabitation but also dependence on natural influences. The session analyses the reasons for societal climate changes within the population of Salzburg and asks if there are any influencing factors from abroad or relationships between human history in general and local movements. Another aspect will be the regional veneration of local saints and their justification. The first paper discusses the hagiographical texts, which are an essential part of the veneration of saints. Very often teachings, sermons but also miracles in connection with natural events were motives in these Vitae. The second paper deals with the relationship between the Prince Archbishop and the urban population of the residential city of Salzburg where the climate between sovereign and citizens has always been particularly tense.
