Abstract

Our session is focusing on various aspects with regard to borders and border societies in Byzantine Macedonia, i.e. the Southern Balkan Peninsula, in the 13th and 14th centuries as well as Digital Humanities in Medieval Studies and Historical Geography of the Byzantine World. We will address the perception of space, the state and character of borders and the monuments in the area of research. Moreover, we will highlight digital tools, which we develop and apply to our data, in order to enhance our TIB Frontend 'Maps of Power' and geocommunication capabilities. Finally, text mining and GIS on data from medieval Galicia will also be discussed.
