Abstract

This first panel in a series of sessions focussing on royal sexuality and reputation investigates how allegations of adultery affected the ability of the monarch and their consort to wield power, and in turn how this impacted relations with their household. It was also discuss the lasting legacies of these monarchs through representations in medieval chronicles. This session brings together discussions of sex and power, highlighting how rulers tried to overcome sexual scandal in order to effectively exercise authority.
