Abstract

This panel examines the Iberian historiography of race and whitening, and seeks to address imbalances not merely through attention to the lack of engagement with Iberian documents on racial matters but specifically with the lack of knowledge and engagement with the theories and discussions that have been produced within medieval Iberian studies. It is based on the belief that to decolonize our practices and fully understand current topics such as racial thinking, we can start by taking more seriously the experiences of 'the peripheries' where similar questions may have been at the forefront for a longer time.
