| Abstract | In Shakespeare's Macbeth the appearance of witches and other topical moments are highlighted by storms. Beyond Macbeth, storms remain linked to literary representations of magic and horror until our times. This panel would like to investigate the supernatural causes of tempests linked to magic, witchcraft and holiness, and the way in which the sources use them to communicate the goodness or the negativity of the protagonists' actions to the readers. We will talk about the Corrector of Burchard of Worms, of saints who deny their relics through storms, and of the powers of rain-making witches according to demonologists. |
