Sponsor:Society for the Medieval Mediterranean
Organiser:Jan Vandeburie, School of Historical Studies, University of Leicester
Moderator/Chair:Jan Vandeburie, School of Historical Studies, University of Leicester
Abstract

The Society for the Medieval Mediterranean is dedicated to all aspects of the academic study of Mediterranean history and culture, from the fifth to the 15th centuries. It aims to foster cross-cultural and inter-disciplinary investigation, create a forum of ideas, and encourage debate on cross-pollination within the Medieval Mediterranean.

This round table brings together scholars specialising in various aspects of the Medieval Mediterranean to discuss the theme of 'interruptions'. While the impact of climatological disruptions will be the main focus, the panel will also consider how phenomena like diseases, wars, and shortages, often directly linked to climatological circumstances, impacted the societies around the Mediterranean Sea.

Participants include Christopher Heath (Manchester Metropolitan University), Jessica Tearney-Pearce (Woolf Institute / University of Cambridge), Nicky Tsougarakis ( Edge Hill University), Esther-Miriam Wagner (Woolf Institute / University of Cambridge), and Philip Wood (Aga Khan University).
