Abstract

What are the opportunities and challenges of publishing online in Medieval Studies? This question became paramount as we developed a new publishing platform called Archivum Medii Aevi Digitale (AMAD) as an online repository connected to a scientific blog.

In our panel, we will first offer a full description of the repository and then explore the opportunities and challenges of online publishing more broadly in this round table discussion. Scholars from different universities and career stages will share their expertise and experiences. Questions we are looking forward to discussing with them and IMC participants include: how are new technologies pushing the borders of the scholarly publishing world; what are the advantages of online publishing; how can we ensure that the research is seen and read; how can we best involve the research community in a lively dialogue?

Participants include Lena van Beek (Christian-Albrechts-Universität, Kiel), Karoline Döring (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München), Björn Gebert (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster), Steffen Krieb (Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur, Mainz), Christof Rolker (Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg), and Charles West (University of Sheffield).
