Abstract

This third panel in a series of sessions focussing on royal sexuality and reputation investigates the notion of dangerous sexuality: sexuality which was forbidden, which drew scandal, and has captivated the attentions of chroniclers and historians for centuries. It examines sexual activity which fell outside marital and canonical boundaries, and have affected our perceptions of royal and female sexualities. Drawing this set of panels to a close, it will continue to highlight how gender and sexuality are intertwined and an essential method for examining medieval power and authority.
