Monday 5 July 2021, 19.00-20.30

Sponsor:Medieval WaterWorks
Organiser:Bethany Whalley, Department of English Language & Literature, King's College London
Moderator/Chair:Hetta Howes, School of English & Drama, Queen Mary, University of London
Abstract

This pair of interlinked, but autonomous, round table discussions creates a laboratory for testing the theoretical and methodological potential of water; our aspiration is to foster open and collective discussion about how thinking with water can contribute to the way we understand, research, write, and teach the Middle Ages. Participants in this round table will consider water through the lens of medieval water technologies and infrastructures in the landscape, on stage, and on the page. Together, we will reflect upon the ways in which hydraulic innovation has complexly shaped social, environmental, and cultural relations in the past and present.

Participants include Daisy Black (University of Wolverhampton), Dana Katz (Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Alba San Juan PĂ©rez (Universidad de Salamanca), and Bethany Whalley (University of Bristol).
