Abstract

This is the second of two sessions celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the journal Early Medieval Europe through the sponsorship of papers delivered by graduate students and ECRs. Paper -a examines the Formulae imperiales of Louis the Pious as a reflection of ideas about social justice that were vital to Louis' imperial image. Paper -b discusses a charter of 959 to cast light on the transformation of the status of the royal wife in 10th-century England. Paper -c analyses petitions to the kings of Léon in the 10th and 11th centuries to explore their ritual character and liturgical connotations.
