Abstract

The network project 'Rethinking the Medieval Frontier' has been presenting comparative, dialogic research on understandings of frontiers and borders based on medieval evidence since 2015. On the occasion of the IMC sharing the group's theme of research, the time seems right to reflect with friends and colleagues not just on the network's own sessions but on everything else that has been going on the field in recent years. Are we any closer yet to being able to define, understand, and describe the medieval frontier as a phenomenon?

Participants include Jonathan Jarrett (University of Leeds), Catarina Madureira Villamariz (Universidade Nova de Lisboa), Andrea Mariani Universidade do Porto), Alex Metcalfe (University of Lancaster), Sam Ottewill-Soulsby (Universität Tübingen), and Daniel Power (University of Swansea).
