Abstract

Games and playing were an integral part of medieval society. Games on horseback could serve as recreation, but they could also be practised as preparation for warfare, as well as ground for social advancement. In this round table discussion, the speakers will explore the theory and practice behind medieval mounted games and the how these could be used to advance particular technical skills in a mounted soldier.

Participants include Adeline Dumont (Independent Scholar, Aveyron), Jürg Gassmann (Independent Scholar, Wexford), and Andrew Ó Donnghaile (National University of Ireland, Galway).
