Abstract

Medieval Studies in China over the last seventy-five years were greatly affected by Western narratives like other areas of the world, meanwhile it has formed its own characteristics with a never-extinguished self-awareness in this process and thus made unique contributions to the diverse writing of world history. This Topic contains Session I and Session II. Session I mainly explores and aims to raise discussion on the following questions: What was the academic development process of medieval research in the Chinese academic community over the past seventy-five years? What were the characteristics presented? How could we position China's medieval studies in the world's academic community? What are the current and future trends? What are their shortcomings? What are the theoretical contributions of the Chinese academic community? What kind of big questions and explanations of great significance were issued in the comparative historical studies between China and the West?
