Abstract

This session offers an interdisciplinary approach that combines archaeological research with the study of administrative legal documents. Based around a series of new excavations, archival research, and the integration of diverse data sources from Sicily and al-Andalus, it seeks to shine new light on the socio-political and religious landscape and legal systems that shaped life on the island. In doing so, it shall not only offer a focused study of Sicily itself, but also seek to explain the dynamic connectivity between the island's populations and its secular and religious institutions.
