Abstract

Crisis - in its political, social and economic dimensions - usually calls for redefinition and renegotiation of Authority. The aim of this session is to explore the establishment and social negotiations of authority in different contexts of medieval Latin literature. The first paper (Karolina Białas) examines strive towards definition of abbot’s power in the context of monastic reform in the 10th century on an example of Fleury Abbey. The second paper (Kalina Słaboszowska) focuses on the emotions employed in establishing, sustaining, and executing relations of power as presented in late Medieval Polish chronicle - the „Annales” of Jan Długosz. The third and the last one presentation (Sylwia Matysiak) addresses the question of female agency in the late Antiquity and ways of commemorating and reinforcing the political power in local communities of Roman Empire.
