| Abstract | In this round table we discuss the potential of performance art and performance research to further our understanding of medieval (art) history, philosophy, and theology. Performance research and re-enactment are promising innovative methodologies to study the Middle Ages. In our panel we discuss current practice-based methodologies and reflect on our experiences performing (those) at the IMC Leeds. The artists/researchers who join the discussion will perform their work before the round table and discuss their insights during the session. We, then, offer an overview and some initial reflections on past performances at the IMC Leeds (up to the present day). We analyse who performed at the conference, what was performed, and how the performance contributed to a deeper understanding of the research topic. We end the session with some suggestions for future/further integration of performance art and the study of the Middle Ages and its presentation at conferences. The session starts with performances of the panel members, followed by a round table. Both will take an hour. Participants include James Baillie (Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften, Wien), Daisy Black (University of Wolverhampton), Cora Dietl (Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen), and Liz MacWhirter (University of Glasgow). |
