Abstract

Onomastics, the study of names and naming, has long proved a crucial tool of medievalists. This sessions seeks to explore the interaction between onomastics and the theme of this year's conference - Crisis. Do periods of change and (social/ cultural/ economic) crisis manifest themselves in changes in the naming of individuals, groups, and places? How abrupt are these changes, and how long lasting? Alternatively, in what circumstances do we see little or no onomastic change in the wake of crisis?
