| Abstract | How did crises, such as natural disasters, epidemics, or wars, affect economic life in the Middle Ages? What kinds of responses did crises elicit, and what types of risk management mechanisms emerged to safeguard against them? With a focus on the European Mediterranean, this panel will explore these questions from a variety of perspectives, ranging from social security measures to changes in moneylending patterns and documentation practices. |
