Abstract

Throughout the nineteenth century, various factors impacted on the study of early medieval history. The papers in this panel will examine different approaches to early medieval history and culture: through law, through landscape, and through language. Together these papers offer nuanced views of the impetus for scholarship of the early Middle Ages and how scholars considered the present and the past in conversation.
