IMC 2024 welcomed 2,727 delegates, both in-person and virtually, from 64 different countries to the International Medieval Congress at the University of Leeds from 1-4 July. Delegates got to experience four days of academic and social enjoyment on interdisciplinary topics with a rooted foundation of medieval studies at its core. Hosted via Confex’s virtual event platform, the annual event generated recordings that were available for registered delegates to view via the event platform until 31 August.

The August edition of the IMC Newsletter contains a rundown of the IMC 2024 academic programme with a summary of the IMC fairs, events and excursions, IMC social media, and the ever famous Making Leeds Medieval. It can be viewed here.

The IMC also went on an away day to Devonshire Hall at the University of Leeds to reflect on IMC 2024 and look at delegate feedback on how we can improve the IMC in the future. The feedback from this showed that delegates enjoyed the fostering of an in-person academic community and appreciated the ability to socialise and come back to campus in a post-COVID world to reconnect with colleagues and friends. The IMC Staff were also praised highly for their professionalism and customer service in both the session rooms and around campus.

Plans for IMC 2025 are already underway, and we are very pleased that we have Sita Steckel (Historisches Seminar, Goethe-Universität Frankfurt) as the coordinator for our ‘Worlds of Learning’ special thematic strand. The IMC team have really enjoyed reading and reviewing the large number of paper proposals which are currently with our Programming Committee. Our new IMC 2025 Call for Papers Padlet page is filled with so many amazing session proposals which we cannot wait to review in October.

The IMC has also resurrected its Instagram Page:@imc_leeds. We are very excited to network and get more IMC posts and behind-the-scenes out to a wider audience.
