Abstract

Paper 626-a:

Paper 626-b:

Monastic and ecclesiastical texts are valuable sources. They include wills and judicial inquiries showing how memory, time and the role of the elderly in conflicts between monasteries and the community were understood. These testimonies provide a better understanding of society and mentalities, as well as interests in controlling property and resources. The documentation of the diplomatic collection of the monastery of San Clodio do Ribeiro (Galicia) has been studied, and several documents of interest have been identified. These documents shed light on the construction of temporal memory and the perception of time among the inhabitants of the Ribeiro region during the 14th and 15th centuries.

The study utilised nine wills, encompassing both female and male subjects, to analyse the perception of time among individuals who perform this act. Additionally, three judicial inquiries were consulted, where in multiple individuals who have attained an advanced age were interviewed. Some of these individuals claim to possess recollections extending up to 70 years in the past. I will explore how the passage of time was measured and the validity and usefulness of testimony regarding memory, in the context of resolving disputes and the imposition of sentences in the medieval kingdom of Galicia.

Paper 626-c:

In this paper I aim to demonstrate that the intellectual milieu of the University of Krakow began to read and utilize Italian humanist literature as early as 1420–1440 and not, as it is currently acknowledged by some scholars, around 1470. To validate this hypothesis, I will analyze recommendations authored by professors at the University of Kraków. This will involve citation mining and a comparative analysis of selected speeches by Polish professors alongside the corpus of Italian humanist texts from the Trecento and Quattrocento. Through this approach, I aim to more precisely identify the onset of humanism in 15th-century Poland.
