Abstract

In the 5th century, when Roman administration gradually withdrew from the Pannonian provinces, the whole region underwent a long phase of instability and change. With the interdisciplinary HistoGenes approach, we have compared archaeological and historical evidence and the (re-)emergence of communities with population genetic and even genealogical indications. We showcase patterns of localized processes and general trends up to the 11th century.
