Abstract

The year 2026 marks the 450th death anniversary of the most renowned German poet of the Reformation period Hans Sachs (1494–1576). To commemorate this occasion, we want to look into Sachs’s work and reception through the lens of the IMC theme Temporalities in two sessions. The second session investigates the embeddedness of Sachs and his work in time on a broader scale. The papers look into the reception, commemoration, and reappearance of his work in later centuries, highlighting practices of editing, studying, imagining, and reshaping in the search for the historic Hans Sachs or drawing out aspects of his life and work that respond to the needs of different historical moments.
