Abstract

This round table discussion aims to stimulate discussion, from the practical to the ethical, about diamond open access journal publishing in medieval studies. What is diamond open access, how does it differ from gold/green open access? What are the models for setting up open access journals? What are the challenges for publishers/editors? What are the advantages/disadvantages for contributors? As university library budgets are increasingly under pressure (with expensive journal subscriptions being dropped and funds not available for open access fees), as for-profit journal publishing becomes increasingly expensive, as national funding bodies require open access publication and as there is a push to be globally accessible, diamond open access is an increasingly compelling form of publication.

Participants include Elizabeth Tyler (Centre for Medieval Studies / Department of English & Related Literature, University of York), Walter Pohl (Institut für Mittelalterforschung, Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften, Wien), Ingrid Hartl (Institut für Mittelalterforschung, Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften, Wien), Stavroula Constantinou (Centre for Medieval Arts & Rituals, University of Cyprus), Lars Boje Mortensen (Institut for Kultur- og Sprogvidenskaber, Syddansk Universitet, Odense))
