| Abstract | These sessions focus on drawing out new stories about medieval canon law, asking diverse and novel questions of our traditional, time-worn sources, and looking at (and beyond) questions of temporalities. Our concluding round table discussion examines the names, sources, and typologies traditionally employed by scholars of medieval canon law and its adjacent disciplines, synthesising the strands of the historiographical frameworks and contemporary ideas presented in the other three sessions. Our speakers will think about how medieval canon law overlapped and engaged with penance, theology, administration, and politics, considering how and when scholarly terminologies were formed and how their interpretation ebbed, flowed, or sometimes just changed in the Middle Ages. Participants include Greta Austin (Department of Religion, Spirituality & Society, University of Puget Sound, Washington), Danica Summerlin (School of History, Philosophy & Digital Humanities, University of Sheffield), Rob Meens (Departement Geschiedenis en Kunstgeschiedenis, Universiteit Utrecht), Alice Taylor (Department of History, King's College London), Melodie H. Eichbauer (College of Arts & Sciences, Florida Gulf Coast University), Raphaël Eckert (Faculté de droit, de sciences politiques et de gestion, Université de Strasbourg)) |
