The LUU Medieval Society Film Night returns for IMC 2026! This year’s film is The Northman (2022), directed by Robert Eggers and adapted from the Gesta Danorum by Saxo Grammaticus. As a child, prince Amleth witnesses a coup that results in the death of his father and the abduction of his mother. Narrowly escaping with his life, Amleth swears revenge on the murderer – his uncle Fjölnir. Many years later, Amleth, now a grown man, seizes his chance at vengeance with the help of Olga, an enslaved Slavic woman.

As ever, the film will be introduced by members of the society and will be followed by an open discussion, which can always continue in Old Bar...

Viewers should note that this film is rated 15 for strong bloody violence, gore, sexual violence, sex, and nudity. For further content advice, please consult the BBFC website.

The LUU Medieval Society was formed in 2013 in order to promote a thriving community of medievalists at the University and in the city of Leeds. They regularly hold events such as film screenings, game nights, and workshops, as well as organising talks and day-trips to nearby medieval sites. Their goal is to create a fun and inclusive space for exploring all aspects of the medieval world, as well as more modern 'medievalisms'!
